In the Clásico of the Copa de la Reina on 5 February 2026, FC Barcelona Femení won 4:0 against Real Madrid. The match was not only special in sporting terms, but also because of the large crowd, the special atmosphere and my own role as a photographer just meters from the action on the pitch.
After an initially balanced phase, Alexia Putellas put Barcelona ahead before the break. Barcelona clearly dominated the second half, with Ewa Pajor scoring twice and Salma Paralluelo adding another goal, while Real Madrid struggled to make an impact. Barcelona thus confidently advanced to the semi-finals of the competition, once again underlining its dominance in direct encounters with its Las Blancas.
For me, this match had a very personal significance that went beyond the sporting aspect. As a photographer on site, I was able to experience the special atmosphere, the numerous spectators and the intensity of this Clásico up close. There were numerous international stars on the pitch, including Swiss player Sydney Schertenleib, who did not play but still had a special significance for me as a fellow Swiss citizen. Being close to the players, the grand stage of the Copa de la Reina and capturing this high-class match on camera made the evening a wonderful and unforgettable experience.
